What is How Far Is That?

How Far Is That? is a free map tool for two things: measuring the straight-line distance between two points, and drawing a radius circle around any location. Search for a place, click the map, or share your location, and get an instant answer — no sign-up, no account, nothing to install.

Common uses

  • Checking whether an address falls inside a delivery zone, service area, or school catchment
  • Estimating straight-line ("as the crow flies") distance for flights, hikes, or running routes
  • Visualizing an evacuation zone, HOA boundary, or "within X miles" radius
  • Comparing how far apart two cities or addresses really are
  • Sanity-checking a distance claim in a listing, ad, or news story

Looking for a specific size? Browse common radius sizes in miles and kilometers, each with the area, diameter, and typical drive/walk time. Or check distances between major US cities, closest to farthest.

Frequently asked questions

How do I measure the distance between two points?
Switch to Distance mode, then set two points by clicking the map, searching for an address, or using your current location as the first point. The straight-line distance appears instantly above the map, in miles or kilometers.
How do I draw a radius around a location?
Switch to Radius mode, enter a distance such as 1 mile, 5 miles, or 10 km, then click the map or search for a center point. A circle of that radius is drawn instantly, and the map auto-fits to show the whole area.
Can I measure distance from my current location?
Yes. Allow location access and your position is automatically set as the starting point, then click or search for any destination to see how far away it is.
Miles or kilometers?
Toggle between mi and km at any time using the units buttons in the top bar; distance and radius values convert automatically.
Is How Far Is That? free, and is my location data stored?
Yes, it's completely free with no account required. Your location, if you share it, is used only in your browser to center the map, and is never sent to or stored on our servers. See the privacy policy for details.
